3.0 Women's Winners New Providence

Plainfield, NJ - The 2014 USTA Eastern NJ Regional Championships took place on August 1 - 3 in various locations during the course of the weekend, and under sometimes challenging weather conditions.

The playoffs began under threatening skies on Friday evening at Donald Van Blake Tennis Center in Plainfield. The scheduled matches took place without any weather interruption. Saturday, however, was a different story - torrential rains greeted the players in the early morning hours, forcing a change of venue. The men moved to Warren Health And Racquet Club in Warren, and the women went to Garden State Tennis Center in Edison. There were the inevitable late starts due to the tough traveling conditions, but eventually the matches were under way.

At about 2PM the weather cleared, and the men moved back outdoors to Van Blake, while the women continued play indoors at GSTC. Even though matches started late in the morning, all of the scheduled matches were completed on time by the end of the day. Bright, sunny skies greeted the players on Sunday, when the playoffs were completed.

Competition during the entire tournament was fierce, with close matches among both the men and women, and some notable and very entertaining marathon Singles and Doubles matches. Despite the weather challenges and necessary changes in venue, the tournament proceeded without a hitch, with several players complimenting the Coordinators on the way in which the event was organized and expressing their enjoyment participating.
