Shorter courts, smaller racquets and lower compression balls made their Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) debut on August 19, as USTA Eastern held its first ever 10 and Under Tennis JTT Championship at Saw Mill Club in Mount Kisco.
The event, which was held as part of the section’s JTT Summer Championships, featured four teams: Kela Tennis and Mighty Mites from the Southern Region, and Maywood and Bill Wing Tennis Academy from the New Jersey Region.
The teams played on blended lines for 10 and Under tennis, and competed in a round-robin tournament for the section title.
"10 and Under Tennis was a great addition to the Summer Championships," said Maria Lirio, Manager of Jr. Team Tennis for USTA Eastern. "Some of the section’s youngest players got a chance for the first time to compete on teams for a section title with courts and equipment that are geared to their age and size."
Kela Tennis won the 10 and Under Championship, and Maywood finished as finalists. In addition, 11 other teams competed in the 14 and 18 and Under Intermediate divisions on Saturday, August 18, at Saw Mill Club and Chestnut Ridge Racquet Club in Mount Kisco. Those results are below:
14 & Under Intermediate
Champions: Upper Ridgewood Gold (New Jersey)
Finalists: Bill Wing Tennis Academy (New Jersey)
18 & Under Intermediate
Champions:  Hicksville Smash (Long Island)
Finalists: Ballston Spa Rally Masters (Northern)
